MANIPAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY – Manipal

This new building for M.I.T. accommodated the expansion program and shifting of Dept. Of Architecture and Civil Engineering from old building of M.I.T.

The design agenda was dictated primarily by physical characteristics of site and its context. The slopes were negotiated while understanding the accessibility to building at various locations to suit the convenience of different users and also linked to the old building by over bridge. The spatial organization is aimed to structure courtyards of varying sizes permeating air flow across. Laboratories, studios and lecture halls are oriented north-south for uniform glare free lighting.

The circulation was kept off the classrooms and studios with object to allow equal lighting from either sides and seclusion from movement areas. The vocabulary of visual expression included vernacular features such as sloping roofs with necessary transformations.
